    Morocco and MEDA gala

The weekend of October 21st is still spinning through my body. The workshop with Morocco was non-stop from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. On saturday morning Aunt Rocky taught us a raqs sharki choreography (with two 5 minute bathroom breaks), we had an hour at lunch to eat and cruise the vendors (oh beautiful glittering cossies, I adore you but will resist), raced to tech rehearsal, scurried home for dinner and makeup, back to Shadbolt Centre for a remarkable, wonderful show (congratulations MEDA, this was the best one yet!), got home at 11:30 p.m. and stumbled in to bed to get up at 7 the next morning and do it all over again.

Morocco, what a wonderful contradiction you are. You arrive at workshop in your red dress, black snood, black knee highs and sandals, NY accent and sense of humour, your accomplishment of 11 languages and endless knowledge about oriental dance, and you dance us through the choreographies and smile. Then you close the gala show with a 15 minute piece complete with crystal clear, lightning speed non-stop zills......and the delicacy you dance with makes me want to cry.

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to study with this dance legend. Thank you MEDA for bringing her to our rain forest city.
